🌺☀️ Start of Summer Beach Party ☀️🌺 / campfire

The large campfire - or fire pit perhaps given that it was dug into shallow sand and encircled by rocks - was currently unlit given that the holodeck programme was currently in the afternoon. However, the bass music that literally shifted the sand with every beat showed that this was the place to be if you wanted more hard-core partying. In the absence of a bar there was a Rigelian vendor on-hand to procure drinks and snacks from a large cooler that must have been made with some sort of replicator technology.

Xai hummed under its breath along to the music, taking a seat by the fire pit and setting its bag down beside it. Whoever made this program had good taste!

As any grill master should upon their arrival Shane went to claim his kingdom, the grill zone was about to be born. When he arrived he placed his bags of goodies down near the fire pit. He also gave a nod of greeting to Kyn. Unfortunately for Shane the fire was out! Not to worry he'd have a (holographic) fire good and soon as he tinkered with a panel embedded into a log to generate some fire gear into the simulation.

Xai arched an eyebrow at the curious display before them, plucking a pair of sunglasses from their bag. Hardly helpful thanks to her eye patch? Yes. Cute so they wore them anyway? Also yes. "You know we still have a few hours before the fire turns on, right?.. You just gotta wait it out," they mused, as Shane continued to fiddle with the panel. "Do you even know what you're doing?"

"I can't light the damn thing myself?" Shane said as he continued to fiddle with a panel trying in vain to light the fire himself. "That sucks." He said Kyn dejected.

With a snicker, Xai opened her mouth to say something, but— the holodeck shifted and adjusted around her, and she turned her head towards the cooking deck. "There you go," she said, jerking a thumb back in the direction of it. "We think the holodeck heard your prayers."

"Well, I guess I should start praying more. I'm off!" And off to the grills shane went!

Xai waved him off with a playful salute, sipping on a bottle of soda while they lounged. Alone again. Well, at least the vendor was here.

One person left, only for two to arrive - the duo chattering about something as the taller one herded the other one towards the campfire, though it was clear by the latter's expression that the black-haired Romulan didn't mind too much. "And anyways, the docking then went smoothly despite the in--" brown eyes skimmed over the other figure present by the campfire, and... huh. Syrax could swear he has seen this person before..?

Spotting her fellow helmsman, Xai threw up a hand in greeting, though internally cringed. Ah, shit. She knew OF him, knew they'd probably work together for the occasional away missions and other things, but had she caught his name? Oh nooo. Hopefully they hadn't introduced themselves and she'd forgotten! "Like the music?" she called out over the noise.

"It's okay," was his answer, drowned out by the more enthusiastic "Yeah!!" from Syrax. Saren shook his head a little bit, letting the sunglasses slip off of his nose, just enough to uncover his eyes to let him look at the sitting officer they've eventually approached. A Pandronian? Curious. "How's the event treating you?"

"You're a fellow helmsman, right?" was the question that immediately followed Saren, the other Romulan regarded Kyn with a delighted squint to his eyes. He didn't seem to recall The One Event quite yet. "Don't remember if we've talked much before..."

"Just fine," they answered cheerfully, offering the bottle of soda in a half-hearted 'cheers' motion. "Yeah. You can call us Xai, this one only transferred.. ahh, a few months ago? You look familiar, so it checks out.." Xai shrugged it off with a smile, gesturing for them both to join her. "We like your hair."

He blinked. Huh. Interesting. "My name is Saren, it's a pleasure to be acquainted. I'm from the science department, so... not that versed in things concerning helmsmanship, but... he's right here, so." Oh, drinks. That might be a good idea - and a way to busy his fidgeting. Saren motioned with his hand, "I'll be right back. Lemon, I assume?"

He made a small show of flipping his hair a bit, the bastard: "Xai? Hah, interesting! My name is Syrax, often shortened to Sy... let's try to not get each other confused too often." He gave a thumbs up to Saren's question, before finding his seat nearby Xai. "Thank you, though. As for looking familiar... we might have ran into each other before? Have you done anything before coming here?"

"Well, hmmm.." Xai crossed their legs, leaning forward a little as they thought it over. How awkward was this? Hey, my ship crashed into your ship at least three times because of a time loop. Sorry about that. "This one's last post was the USS Enyalios. We dunno if you've heard anything about it, but we ran into 777 on our, ah, last ever mission— we wouldn't be alive if it weren't for you guys, so when this one was cleared for duty again..." They trailed off, staring down at their soda in contemplation. "Sorry. Heavy stuff."

The easy expression blanked somewhat as Xai went on, realization creeping in as what she was saying sounded... a bit too familiar to his liking. "Enyalios," he echoed, a small chuckle and an awkward scratch at the back of his neck as the Romulan's gaze shifted to the campfire. "Hah, damn. No, no, you're fine, don't worry, it's just-- I was there. On the Eventide." Um. "Glad everything is okay now!" he blurted out, looking at the fellow pilot with an earnest expression, "Genuinely. Glad you guys got out and, um, can continue doing stuff. Yeah. Fuck, sorry, I just didn't expect us to have such shared history."
